Brent Staples’ Black Men in Public Places

Black Men in Public Spaces is a piece of autobiographical writing that deals with issues of racism and discrimination in the United States. In his short essay, Brent Staple relates a few of his nighttime experiences in the street, which revealed the way in which he was perceived by the others. As a member of the black community, Staples discovers that he is shunned by the strangers that he meets in the street and that women especially think of him as of a perilous individual. Not being a violent man, Staples is confused and offended by the awe he inspires to the strangers that pass him by and soon learns to shun them himself in order to avoid the unpleasantness of an encounter. Thus, Black Men in Public Places is best suited for biographical criticism. The essay recounts a few of the experiences of the author during his encounters with strangers in the street. These experiences are related in such a way as to highlight the social issues at hand: racism in the form of prejudice and pre conception. The author has several encounters with white people during his night wanderings that reveal a disconcerting attitude on their part. The young black man is shunned by the white collectivity as a dangerous man. The setting of these occurrences is very important: the night and the public places reveal the space that the black community is allowed for in the current society. Despite the fact that they are free, black men are regarded with prejudice and lack of confidence by absolute strangers, without any explicit motive. Thus, the author feels that his simple presence in the street, without any triggering gesture or attitude on his part, is likely to cause disturbance. He also realizes that the fact that he is considered dangerous by the others without other evidence than the fact that he is black can make his walks dangerous. To highlight his ideas, Brent Staples uses a few particular devices. Thus, first of all, the piece is more of an essay than an actual story. Neverthele ss, the author shapes it by giving it a particular ending. While he relates a few of his experiences as well as that of one of his black friends who is also a journalist as himself in the beginning, he ends by remarking that he himself soon adopted the same attitude as the white individuals had towards him. Thus, in order to avoid the unpleasantness of feeling the fear he inspires to the strangers he meets in the street, he begins to avoid anyone he sees himself and to keep his distance as much as possible. He also relates that he decides to quicken his pace and overtake other people in the street so that they should not feel as if they were followed by him. These techniques that the author uses for avoidance are revelatory for the racial problem described here. Thus, the black men do not seem to be entitled to the â€Å"public space†, where they are looked upon with fear or distrust. Their mere presence is therefore avoided by strangers because of racial prejudice. The author creates an interesting effect at the beginning of the story as he uses semiotics and tropes in order to make his point. Thus, swinging for a moment into the white perspective, he begins his story by declaring the first woman that ran away from him in the street â€Å"his first victim†: â€Å"My first victim was a woman-white, well dressed, probably in her early twenties. I came upon her late one evening on a deserted street in Hyde Park [†¦]†(Barnet, Burto and Cain, 301). The word â€Å"victim† is a sign, emphasizing the way in which the white person perceived himself or herself in the presence of the black man.Furthermore, Staples makes use of an interesting metaphor to describe the confusing and painful effect that this first experience had on his own perception. Using an auditory image, he highlights the fact that the reality of prejudice was discovered to him in the sound of the hurrying footsteps of the white woman who was trying to escape him without a ny apparent reason: â€Å"It was in the echo of that terrified woman's footfalls that I first began to know the unwieldy inheritance I'd come into–the ability to alter public space in ugly ways.†(Barnet, Burto and Cain, 301) It is through this echo of avoidance that he hears in the woman’s footsteps that Staples realizes that he is not regarded as a simple individual but as a part of the black community, and, as such, he finds himself the unwilling inheritor of detrimental behavior. In order to transmit his message on racial prejudice, Staples also uses a metaphor describing the actual distance that lies between black and white people: â€Å"That first encounter, and those that followed, signified that a vast, unnerving gulf lay between nighttime pedestrians–particularly women–and me.† (Barnet, Burto and Cain, 301) Using the word â€Å"gulf† to portray this distance and the relationship between the black and the white, Staples evokes the painful consequences of prejudice, which creates this insurmountable distance between people. These observations, determine the author to take precautions himself and avoid encounters in the street as much as possible: â€Å"I now take precautions to make myself less threatening. I move about with care, particularly late in the evening. I give a wide berth to nervous people on subway platforms during the wee hours, particularly when I have exchanged business clothes for jeans.† (Barnet, Burto and Cain, 302) The ending of the story is also very effective, as the author declares himself the inventor of a new strategic point designed to relax the relationships between the two racial opposites. Thus, upon his encounter with white people, the author begins warbling cheerful songs meant to ease the atmosphere and increase the confidence of the others: â€Å"Even steely New Yorkers hunching toward nighttime destinations seem to relax, and occasionally they even join in the tune . Virtually everybody seems to sense that a mugger wouldn’t be warbling bright, sunny selections from Vivaldi's Four Seasons.† (Barnet, Burto and Cain, 302) Black Men in Public Places is therefore effective precisely because the writers chooses an autobiographical style to relate his experiences, thus providing with an introspective view of his experiences. The ending is particularly effective precisely because it depicts the unnecessary efforts the author takes in order to make his presence in the street less conspicuously menacing for the white people. Reasons Why I Want to be an RN Essay

There are many reasons why I would like to be an RN, and there are many reasons of why I should become an RN, ever since I was a child I have had the idea of being a nurse implanted in my head. Then as time went by other ideas came into play, like being a teacher or being a police officer, but being a nurse always stayed in my mind as a great career for me. I got this idea of being a nurse from my mother when I was a little kid, see my mom is a nurse, actually she is now the director of nursing at Bakersfield Heart. But when I was a kid, she went from floor nurse, to charge nurse, to director of her floor, to house supervisor, to assistant director, and now director. I can easily see her retiring as the CEO of this hospital. Now I do not know if I would want to do all of that, but I definitely see myself going from floor nurse to charge nurse, and maybe the director of the floor. The upper management just does not sound as fun to me. So originally I did not pursue the idea of nursing, I actually went into college thinking I was going to be a local high school teacher and wrestling coach, so I went and got my degree in Art Education, but while I was in college, I started working as a transport orderly at San Jose Medical Center before it closed, then went to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where I started working as an Emergency Room clerk, and moved up to an Emergency Room Technician and loved the hands on with the patients. This is where I decided that teaching may wait till I retire from nursing, and nursing will become my career. Soon as I started working side by side with our nurses in the ER I saw that this is what I should be doing, and this is what I want to be doing, so I started working on the prerequisites right then and there. I loved the compassion the nurses had for their patients, and to see the smiles that would come from these patients when they felt better. There was something about being bedside that just pushed me to want to be more. Being a tech was and is amazing, but I want more, I want to be running the code, not just  a part of the code, when a trauma victim comes in, or a coded patient comes in. I love the feeling of bring back a patient in a code, even though I know right now by doing just CPR I am the one that is moving the medication through the body, I want to be the one that is pushing epinephrine, to bring that patient back. In this world today, I feel like there are less and less people that are actually trying to improve today’s society, and are looking out only for themselves, or their family. And I do not want to be one of those people. I want to be helping the community whether it is to clean up a homeless man, or save the life of a kid that was shot, you never know what that person can do for the rest of their lives to improve someone else’s life. I know that not all nursing is emergency nursing, but it all has its parts to the community and helping others. And I am ok with that, but I truly see myself in emergency nursing. If you notice that all of my jobs I was looking at while I was growing up, nursing, teaching, police officer, they are all helping professions, they are all improving the world around us, and ultimately that is what I really want to do, is improve the community, and improve the well being of the people around me. And I believe nursing is the right form of profession for me to do that.

Comparison Between Japan and Italy

Why does Japan attract so Many Less Tourists than Italy? Contents Introduction Page 2 International TourismPage 2 Key Aspects of JapanPage 3 Key Aspects of ItalyPage 4 Typical TouristPage 5 International CompetitionPage 5 Conclusion Page 5 Graphs Page 6 BibliographyPage 7 Introduction In this project I will be researching about the difference in tourism between Italy and Japan. I will be researching why there is such a big difference and I will add several graphs and climate data.I will be researching the tourist attractions. I will explain the similarities and differences. I will research about tourist attractions and why a family would choose this country instead of the other. I will research about the two environments. International Tourism International tourism is when a person or more travel out of their home land into a different country and/or religion. It means that they travel from one place to another for reasons like for medical, sport or business. Key Aspects of Japan K ey Aspects of Japan There are many tourist attractions in Japan but why doesn’t it get as many tourists as Italy?Japan has a place called Ginza which consists of department stores, shopping centres, restaurants and coffee shops. Ginza is said to be one of the best places for shopping in the world. It is said to also be very luxurious. The Ise Shrine located in the Mie state of Japan is the shrine built in the honour of goddess Ameterasu-Omikami. This is said to be one of the most sacred places in Japan because inside it holds the Sacred Mirror. Another interesting attraction is the Osaka Castle. It was built in 1583 in Osaka. This would be a great tourist attraction because it is very historical and the castle itself is very beautiful. The biggest tourist attraction I would have to say is Mt. Fuji. Is view is truly breathtaking. It is Japan’s biggest mountain. This would be a great place for someone who enjoys climbing or like sky diving. If the tourist appreciates art work then Kyoto National Art Museum is the place for them. It focuses on Asian and Japanese art from the days when it wasn’t modern. It is built traditionally so that the tourist can really feel like he or she’s part of that era. There is the longest suspension bridge in the world in Japan called Akashi Kaikyo suspension bridge. Is is nearly 4 km long and was finishes in a span of 12 years. One of the most historic and interesting attractions is the Great Buddha of Kamakura. Its nearly 14m tall in length and it is very interesting how this survived the tsunami in the 15th century where as the others were eliminated. The Great Buddha of Kamakura Key Aspects of Italy As we all know the Italians are renowned because of Gladiators and there old empires. There most magnificent attraction would most probably be the Canals of Venice. Its romantic ambience and Italian architecture surrounding it makes it the most admirable place with the Colosseum not far behind. As I mentioned the probably most famous of them all would be the Colosseum which was built at the time of gladiators. People of all ages would gather to watch people fight till the death. They used to cheer as this was one of their few ways of entertainment. Tourists will love the Colosseum because you get the feel that you’re walking through the ages. Pompeii was a lost city in Italy. It was lost due to Mt. Vesuvius erupting in 79 AD. I think this would be quite interesting as there are still remains on the land and also the lost city of Herculaneum is one to see as well. You get an insider in how people lived back then compared to now. Santa Maria Del Fiore is the largest brick cathedral ever built and was the biggest until the modern era. Santa Maria Del Fiore is the symbol of the beautiful city of Florence. This cathedral is a must see for tourists who are Catholics and it’s interesting to see how divine it would be inside. I think Italy would also be famous for its beaches. Altho ugh temperature doesn’t go very high on a good day everyone will be at the beach. Picture of Canals of Venice. Typical Tourist In my own opinion I believe that a typical tourist would go to Italy. They would go because Italy is more of a livelier place and has more interesting tourist attractions. People from all over the world would probably choose Italy because everyone wants to know about Italy’s history. Although the temperature is almost the same there’s way more precipitation in Japan due to monsoon months which tourists don’t want to enter. Japan does have the best technology in the world but they want to go to a country where there isn’t too much poverty which I think Italy fits that criterion. International Competition Two countries come to mind when we talk about competition in the tourist trade, South Korea and Greece.Greece is like Italy it has a lot of Greek history which people would ache to see and South Korea is like Japan, has a lot of good attractions yet not many tourists come. Many people would come to both Italy and Greece but at the state Greece is in at this moment of time with financial trouble if you’re going for business they should go to Italy. Conclusion In conclusion I believe Japan have less tourist because of they're attractions. They don’t have that much to attract people from all over the world although they have the technology for it.I think they should build more attractions like make a old village so you can show people how you used to live. Also because people all over the world want to go to a country where there isn’t too much poverty which is why they would choose Italy. Also because of the monsoon season they lose many tourists who don’t want to come when its full of water. Bibliography â€Å"Crossed Flag Pins. † Http://www. crossed-flag-pins. com. N. p. , n. d. Web. Chart 3. Based on the table 4 and chart 3, clothes and fashion accessories are the highest percentage which MaMalaysianill purchase online because there are many types of cheap clothes and they can shop around before purchase. ZaAzaleamyMys the example f clothes and fashion accessories website. Figure 2: ZaAzaleamyMyources: http://www. zaAzaleacoComy/YHowever, the lowest percentage of purchase online is white (major) appliances such as refrigerator because consumers prefer to see the quality of the appliances more than the price. If the quality of appliances is higher and the usage is long, consumers will afford to purchase if the price is not so expensive. Reasons of purchasing online Base d on the pilot test, 73% of MaMalaysianre prefer to purchase clothes and fashion accessories because it is hard to find suitable clothes in a day and it is wasting of immimef they purchase via offline shopping. They can do some research like price, shipping cost, services and varieties of products from different website. Besides, 40% of MaMalaysianoves to purchase books from online because there are some books are not selling in Malaysia such as â€Å"DuDeducefrom China. Environmental factor drives/discourages of online shoppingEnvironmental factor include political (also includes legal) and social which will influence the online shopping. Those are positive influence to nations who are decided to have online purchasing. However, social cases have affected consumer bebehaviorhat there are negative incidents were happened for online purchasing. For example, nations fear of online purchasing because it is not security via online transaction, which means there will be spsparen your computer like personal data and account number will be detected and stolen. Negative impact from the environmental factor will be hard to boost up Malaysia's economic. Moreover, It is hard to identify the quality of the product like most of teenagers nowadays prefer to buy K-Pops' albums, posters and so on through online and they feel angry and disappointed that the products that they purchased are not in good quality.Psychological factor drives/discourages of online shopping MaMoscowierarchy can be used to represent the psychological factors which developed by Abraham MaMoscown year 1943. After they know the n eeds and wants via online purchasing, they will ask for safety which is security in morality, family, health and resources. However, if they got the negative feedback from friends and family, they will not onuntiedo purchase products and services via online. Meaning, nations must go through first step which is physiological before they enter to other layers. But online shopping will not have this kind problem. Whatever raining, snowing, or clouding outside, it will no effect of online shopping. For the company, it will keep the sale stabilized. For the online shopper, they can purchase their favorites product any time. So the environment can affect online shopping. Psychological Online shopping no needing use the real money, they usually use the credit card to pay. The customers do not have the behavior pay the real money, it will lead they have less conscious of money, thus no control for purchase. For the online shopping ommanyit is an advantage thing. But for customers, they usual regret after purchase. In another hand, online shopping have model to show the product to the consumers. The visual stimulation also is a point that leads more purchase behavior. People believe that the same effect of product will come to their own. Actually, different people suit for different things. Japan Demographic influences online consumer behavior of Japanese in terms of age, ncincomegender and occupation (KoKettlend Keller, 2012). Age In terms of age, Japanese are mostly made up of generation of middle-age group of people. From the statistic shown below, Japan might not encounter the same issue of aging like Singapore as the number of young-born generation is increasing and there is a pro for Japan to accelerate their economic transformation. Figure: Average age of Japanese Source: Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication Gender in Japan Figure: Average Gender in Japan From the graph above, it is vivid that the wom en dominated the Japan population, and then followed by men. There is about 25. 5 million of married couple which forms their family. Only a small part of people are in widow state.Disposable Income Figure: Disposable income of Japanese families It is analyzed that a family with a working head-of-household had a gross income of Yen 562,094. It is notable that the steep increase in disposable income in December. This is due to the year-end bonuses that Japanese workers received. Japanese people enjoy a high standard f living, and nearly 90% of the population consider themselves part of the middle class. However, many studies on happiness and satisfaction with life tend to find that Japanese people average relatively low levels of life satisfaction and happiness. Japan Consumer Online Shopping Behavior Figure 1. 0: Frequency of online sh opping in Japan Source: http://ssSSLaiApplobal. coComN/asAsiaxpress/archives/1090 From the analysis of the chart above, it can be identified that the online shopping behavior of Japanese is very active. 36% of the respondents will shop online for almost every week. The highest number of Japanese, about 18% will shop online for about once every two weeks. In general, Japanese online shopping is categorized as purchased online regularly as more of the people will be online shopping within a month. Figure 2. 0: Frequency of items purchased online in Japan From the above chart, it can be analyzed that most of the Japanese like to purchase the clothes and fashion accessories by online shopping. This is due to the modern thinking and Y-generation style. The second preferred items that Japanese purchase online are food and drinks. This includes the fast food restaurants as the people owdoodadsre very busy of their hectic life and work. After that, it is followed by books category. This inclu des the magazines, newspapers, e-books and so on. This is quite common among Japanese because they like reading pretty much. Meanwhile, stationeries and major appliances shared the same dividend of 5% respectively. Toys score the least for 4% because the parents are more likely to bring their children to buy the toys in shopping complex rather than online shopping. Reasons for Japanese to make such Purchases Generally, Japanese perceive online shopping to be convenience (71 %) and easy 29%), with 62% of the respondents claiming that online shopping is easier than shopping via offline catalogue and telephone (Freeze, 2000).In the pilot test survey, a questionnaire is distributed and the respondents are allowed to make more than one reasons of purchasing online. For Japanese, according to website of online shopping behavior in Asia(2013), 78% of the respondents indicated that secure payment facility and convenient payment methods are the driving force. A Day in the Life of Me Essay

Welcome to the life of me, Jo Compton. There is nothing special about me I’m just a normal, mundane person but I thought I would introduce you into the real world. I am a man with no qualifications trying to be someone that I am not. I try not to blame my failure in this complicated world on anyone but if I had to I would blame my old college that used to be a mental institute in its early days, then I didn’t take any notice but looking back it seems a bit dubious that an institute for the mentally ill being converted into a school. My college was absolutely atrocious the teachers had no control over the pupils you could swear at the teachers and they wouldn’t hand out any punishments as if to say that it is right to disrespect those who are trying to help you for the future but the only good thing about the college was that they had excellent sports program with some of the best sports facilities in London this is mainly due to government resources because we were an under achieving school. Well, as I’ve already told you my name is Jo Compton and I live in Whitechapel, those who aren’t familiar to this place it is near the heart of the great city London (great disappointment). Whitechapel is a working class area where everything looks the same, each block of flats appears the spitting image of the other, for example if I told you to concentrate on a block of flats and then spun you around you wouldn’t have a clue which flats you were looking at. I do indeed live in one of those individual looking flats, my flat has the bare necessities with a lounge which could fool you as being a ‘Tate Modern’ exhibition as all four walls are a blisteringly stunning white with a television that’s sits in the corner blasting sounds measuring up to 30 decibels, two double seating sofas that equivalent to the Skoda Fabia in the sofa industry and lastly a table that some how has managed to maintain hold of all its unique four legs even after reviving it from previous owner with a five finger discount. Then there’s the kitchen with units that date back to the 70’s and 80’s made from the cheap MDF wood covered in a marble plastic coated affect that looks like faeces smeared over pieces of wood. The kitchen also consists of other objects believe it or not, firstly there’s the cooker that is calling out for attention as it hardly sees any action because the battered thing has a tendency to cause mini fires so I’d rather eat the ingredients raw than use the cooker as it is probably a lot more safer but to overcome this problem I bought a second hand microwave as I couldn’t afford a new one which made my life a lot easier wondering how to prepare my food but now it is a forgotten task. Lastly in the kitchen are the mismatching utensils to give a more contemporary feel to my already designer house. These houses cost as much as playing ‘Lotto’ which is a big advantage as all the house prices around the country are increasing rapidly except guess where, yep Whitechapel. Why? You may ask, it is due to several reasons why no-one wants to move to this dump. Firstly the car congestion is possibly the worst in the country with the maximum speed at about 6 miles per hour not that the government has enforced this speed ruling upon the motorists it just that it isn’t possible to go any faster because the large number of cars on the road meaning that no motorist can get above second gear as it would be pointless because you’ll probably come upon the dreaded traffic lights or waiting for some twat in a big convey or jeep, too scared to squeeze through a gap slowing us down even more and not forgetting the air pollution that is like living in a smokers’ club where all the factory chimneys act like the cigarettes and the factory owners as the smokers with us being the passive smokers having to cope with their incessant huffing and puffing, the effluence is so bad that it would only be appropriate to be twinned with Chernobyl, it just doesn’t seem fair that with have to suffer while the pollutants live in their 5-bedroom house relaxing in their Jacuzzi sipping champagne laughing at us, even if they worked hard through their school years and got good qualifications what about those who were deprived of a decent education. If I had my way I would lock all the ignorant pollutants in a room and filter their ignorance within so they can have a glimpse of how we live our lives everyday suffering from their constant contamination of ‘Mother Earth’. Another problem that degrades Whitechapel and London is that it seems that the government tried to fit the whole country in this one area making it confined and repellent to look at, this also contributes to the congestion within Whitechapel and London; you could compare this situation to a person who likes to be a perfectionist for example a purist builds and paints a model aeroplane which turns out to be good job but this isn’t enough for them only excellence will do so they keep adding to it until they over do it and the aeroplane turns out to be crap this is the circumstances that has fallen upon Whitechapel and London. I have to give Whitechapel some credit this was the place of my birth in the ‘Great London Hospital’ on September the twenty-third of 1977, those were the days, a person could live their lives with hardly any hassle only the odd couple of bills, they didn’t have to worry about being sued for absurd reasons like dropping a pen, the air was heavenly compared to today’s filth that we inhale, in those days cars seemed to be a gift from God but now we can see that it was a gift in disguise from Satan to bring the world slowly to a stand still taking us back a century. I hope this rather long passage of writing has enlightened you of the real world and of the real people, what they have to endure and cope with each day of their lives. Count yourself lucky when living your life; forget the little bad things that may happen in one day just remember that the real people in this world have to hack through much tougher ordeals each day, praying that they win the ‘Lotto’ and don’t have to live their repulsive life any more. A day in the life of me! Essay BEEP! BEEP! CRASH! (The alarm clock hits the wall) it must be 6:30 am, (I think that 6:30 should not even have an AM! ). Then I think to my self weekends shouldn’t have alarm-clocks going off on them but of course it is not a weekend it’s a Moany Monday Morning. On a Monday every one wants to know where the weekend has gone especially ME and all I can think about is Saturday night, when I was having a conversation with Sam. Lovely, lovely Sam. Then all I can hear is my mum shouting up the stairs â€Å"KIMBERLEY! KIMBERLEY! † As I have a glimpse of my clock I run out of my room and start to jump about on the bathroom floor mainly because its very cold. Then as I am doing this I jump into a lovely warm bath and before I can even think about it. Its seven o’clock and of this is the time I should be leaving. So as I am running out of the bathroom, I grab my dreary uniform, which I have worn for 4 years now (Unfortunately, Yes! ) And hurry to put it on. I am throwing my bag on my shoulder and running out the door to see my bus go racing past me but I still make it the bus in time because some one has got off the only good thing about this day so far! I step on the same bus as always with the same people as always and the same people are half asleep as always and as I’m on the way to the garage I see Tasha and Henna they come running up to me. Henna jumps at me (and she is not a light person either! ) so I hastily get my lunch and leave from Beaverwood as I leave, I get a bad feeling and YES. I am right; I have left my very, very over-due science homework at home! My first detention of the day and of the year. I have not even got in; I have already got detention fun, fun, fun! As I walk up Beaverwood road, I hear a familiar voice it is Charlotte and so I walk up with her. After talking to her for 10minites Alison turns up to remind me about the Geography test that I’ve got 1st lesson and of course I haven’t revised and I don’t have my folder with me. I am in trouble. And not forgetting science and that’s second lesson. Then the 8:30 bell goes so I begrudgingly walk into my form room for another ‘fun’ time with Miss joice my form tutor. The rest of my form walks in, in front of me I sit and talk to kirsty for 25 minutes. In this time I find out exactly what she has done this weekend and when Alison asks me whether I have done the maths homework, all I can say is â€Å"what do you think? † As the bell goes I walk upstairs to geography with Laura as I walk in Miss Aslett announces that we are going to do the test on Wednesday instead of today and for the first time to day some thing has gone right. But she hands us our homework back from last week. I did not get a very good mark on well I was trying to do it in Friday’s ICT lesson! And I did have a bit of trouble especially as I was do my ICT coursework at the same time . As I take zero notice in my geography lesson, I think About my Spanish Module which is during forth lesson. The bell goes ‘saved by the bell’ then break I spend sitting in my form room mucking about with my mates and trying to eat but when Karen around that will never happen! After break my second favourite lesson maths. This week we are doing display work it is all colouring in so it is easy and I show Alison that lovely homework she would not stop going on about. Next, I plod off to Spanish when I have my Spanish Module test, which I do really well in . at the same time having fun with henna, tasta, Laura and Sarah. It is always fun in Spanish because we joke Mrs Wales around because we are nice like that! At the end of the lesson Miss announces our results I get full marks and I didn’t even revise and Miss gives everyone with full marks a housepoint . I do not even collect them any more so they are really useful! After Spanish, I have to go to my technology room to do my work, which usually takes me until about 2pm but today Mr Harris gives me some help so it only takes me until 1. 45pm. I sit and chat to him at the same time he also helps me with my homework so I do not have to do it at home thus allowing me to go out at the weekend. Because I have tech last lesson I leave my bags in his room, so I do not need to carry them back and forth from my form room. I leave his room and run to my form room and nearly fall over in the process after form it back t until o tech in which I spend an hour doing absolutely nothing well if talking counts then I did do something! At 3:15pm I leave the room and run to catch the bus. Once on the bus I throw my bags down and go to the front to talk to the driver Malcolm and the teacher that’s on duty. The bus leaves to take us all back to our lovely warm houses I get off the bus at Elmstead and walk home which takes 10- 15 minutes when I get home I go straight in the bath then get dress I watch television. At 10pm, I go to sleep until

Writing Skills are learned, not inherited Research Paper

Writing Skills are learned, not inherited - Research Paper Example The organization through the relevant departments must therefore find out the ways of integrating this seamless workforce as this is a formidable and very important assignment. If such diversity is managed well and through proper strategies, the company is likely to soar higher and higher in terms of productivity and even growth. This is because the management of the resources of the company will be efficiently conducted and the efficiency in terms of operations will also go high. Competition on the global scale will also be enhanced as a result of proper management of such workforce (Graff & Birkenstein, 2006). Such management is much more than just the pay slip, it spills over to the general welfare management of such varied groups of people. It all depends on how the management bestowed with such a responsibility is able to bring together such a workforce in a manner that they are so much able to work together. First, the values of the differences must be well understood as this has the impact of improving innovation and creativity as opposed to sameness which does not provide an avenue for critical thinking. An avenue must be created where the varied groups of people are in the position of seeing different perspectives of doing the normal business of the company (Marzano & Paynter, 2004). The company must always ensure that its workforce is up-to-date with the current technology through constant training. These can be conducted by involving the employees in awareness sessions encouraging them to spend time reading and learning about diversity. These should be done in relation to how it would be helpful to the organization. Thirdly, the culture of the organization is particularly important as it has the ability of defining the direction of the company’s action plans (Graff & Birkenstein, 2006). The employees must always be made to think like the organization from the onset. Culture is meant to help success in a given environment. It is through

Film Analyse, Analyse Mise-en-scene, in The Red Shoes (1948 film)and Essay

Film Analyse, Analyse Mise-en-scene, in The Red Shoes (1948 film)and do Ten shots analyse of it - Essay Example Central to the plot is the clash between Miss Victoria Page’s (played by Moira Shearer) artistic ambition and her love life. Tragedy looms large in this type of plot set up and inevitably Miss Page is ruined by this conflict. In this way the plot and the simple straightforward narrative do not match the creative and exuberant visual imagery. Despite the said flaws, the film is worth studying purely its picturization and visual aesthetics. This essay will is an endeavour to study the mise-en-scene of a handful of scenes from the film. To be able to understand the principles being applied for constructing various shots, one has to keep in mind Michael Powell’s philosophy in filmmaking. Powell believed in the notion of the ‘composed film’, in which, â€Å"music, emotion and acting made a complete whole, of which the music was the master†. (Mayer, 2008, p.48) This philosophy is writ large in The Red Shoes, as well as Powell’s other notable films B lack Narcissus (1947) and The Tales of Hoffmann (1951). As a matter of fact, in The Red Shoes, Lermontov says to Miss Page on more than one occasion that â€Å"music is everything†. This is perhaps a reflection of Powell’s own understanding of composing a film. ... riest (danced by Ivan Boleslawsky/Robert Helpmann), to an infernal, red-lit space that is inhabited by the ballet's demonic shoemaker (danced by Ljubov/Leonid Massine).† (Grist, 2012, p.28) These sequences of events are synchronized to the tempo and prompt of the instrumental music. Just as the musical composition by Brian Easdale carries symmetry and repetitive structures within it, the performance of The Ballet of the Red Shoes display a similar arrangement. There is a conscious attempt on part of the directors to unite the strands of various media of art into one dramatic output. It is this accentuation of dramatic effect thus produced which accounts for the continuing remembrance of this film and its ballet performances by generations of film audiences. (Mclean, 2008, p. 135) As a treatise on cinematic art, the film reveals its exceptional ability to exploit the medium and alter accepted boundaries. In its own implicit way, The Red Shoes goes on to shatter the myths surroun ding fairytales, the world of classical ballet and the myths surrounding cinema itself. The notion that fairytales all end on a happy note is refuted in the film. Instead, the comforting aspects of Christen Anderson’s fairy tale (upon which the film is based) are disillusioned and the underlying horror is revealed. For example, the earlier part of the film has the audience believe that Vicky and Julian will live happily ever after. But as events unfold and take a dire turn, the aspirations of the couple are frustrated. In Anderson’s fairytale, a young girl, similar in age and disposition to Vicky Page, wishes to wear the red shoes. But upon wearing them, she cannot stop herself from dancing. This eventually leads to unbearable exhaustion she even resorts to ask the executioner to have mercy
